Aldis Kevin the Carrot returns in heartwarming Christmas commercials

LONDON – Aldi, the budget supermarket, has brought back Kevin the Carrot for its 2020 UK Christmas promotion. This is the fifth year that the vegetarian character has appeared on the retailer's festive scene.

McCann UK agency debuted with Kevin the Carrot for the first time in 2016 and has quickly become a Christmas advertisement.

This year's Christmas ad features Kevin's adorable family of carrots waiting for him to return to the dining table for Christmas dinner. But Kevin is lost in the snow somewhere and needs a little help finding his way home.

Fortunately, he meets a friendly hedgehog named Harry who gives him a lift – although Kevin finds the elevator a bit uncomfortable because he has to sit between its prickly spikes.

When the duo fall into a deep canyon and navigate a fast-flowing river, Kevin hopes they get back in time for Christmas. But luckily, they meet Santa Claus, played by British actor and narrator of the previous Kevin the Carrot ads, Jim Broadbent, who helps them get home.

In reference to the hit film E.T. Kevin is wrapped in a blanket and is crossing the moon in Korb's basket.

For last year's spot, McCann UK had captured Kevin by an angry crowd of Brussels sprouts, led by a brummy thug named Russel Sprout. The gang called "Leafy Blinders" was a parody of the popular BBC TV drama "Peaky Blinders".
