Don't be distracted by the flying hearts that appear on the screen too. This way, your viewers show that they love what they see!

There are several functions available at the bottom and top right of your screen to use in your live video.

They are:

  • Ask. You can collect questions from your audience by posting a question sticker on an Instagram story before going live. When you jump into your stream, this is where you can access your viewer's questions.
  • Send. You can send your live video to a user on Instagram during a broadcast.
  • Add a guest. That way, you and another user can share the live video. When you add a guest, both you and your guest will be shown in the video via a split screen.
  • Face filters. Because the doggie face filter just makes everything better, doesn't it?
  • Switch camera. Switch the cameras from selfie mode to regular mode.
  • Share a photo or video. This is a great way to capture a picture or video from your camera roll and share it with your live audience.
  • Add a comment. Use this field to add or turn off commenting on your stream.

When you're done filming your Instagram Live video, tap the X icon in the top right corner. Once your video is over, you can share it with IGTV, download it to your camera roll, or delete it.

How to start a Live Room

Instagram was launched in March 2021 living room– A new feature that allows users to go live with up to three other people. Previously, it was only possible to co-host streams with someone else using the "Add Guest" option.

Live Rooms allows users (and brands) to get a little more creative with their streams. Inviting additional speakers can create an engaging experience for your audience, such as:

  • Live games
  • creative sessions
  • Questions and answers about influencers
  • and more!

These are just a few ideas that can work well with Live Rooms, but the sky is the limit (actually 4 people is the limit. But you get our excitement).

Live rooms are good news for businesses. When you invite a guest to join your live video, their audience will have access to it, including the users who don't follow you on Instagram. So more guests = contact with a wider audience!

To start a Live Room:

  1. Follow the same steps you would take to set up a regular live stream.
  2. Once you're live, tap Spaces Symbol and choose your guests:

3 tips for using Instagram Live

If you really want to take your Instagram Live videos to the next level, use these tips while you're streaming.

Set yourself a SMART goal

Knowing how to set good goals is critical to social media success – and your goals for Instagram Live are no exception.

It's the difference between jumping into a live stream with no plan and no destination and creating a stream where you know exactly what you want to do and how to do it.

To do this, you need to set a SMART goal.

SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-based.

SMART goal diagram to explain the acronym

  • Specific. Your goal is focused. For example, a bad goal would be "I want a good Instagram live video" because it is vague. A better goal would be, "I want to have 50% more viewers on our next stream," because it's more focused.
  • Measurable. There is a measure of success and you know what it looks like. For example, "I want to get 100 new followers on Instagram" is a good goal because you can measure the number of followers you have gained.
  • Reachable. It is actually doable for you and / or your company. For example, "I want to have the most followers on Instagram" is probably not possible (unless you are world famous soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo). While "I want 1,000 followers on Instagram" is completely achievable.
  • Relevant. Is this goal important to you and your company now? If not, chase one that is.
  • In time. Having a deadline to complete your goal is vital psychologically. It gives you more focus and drive to pursue your goal. For example, "I want to host three Instagram live streams with guests by the fourth quarter" is a very good and timely goal.

So ask yourself: What SMART goals should you set for your brand's Instagram Live goals?

Create a video card

Think of your Instagram Live video as a road trip: you should know all of the pit stops you want to make on your journey to your final destination.

This is why it is important to create a map or outline of your video. Write down all of the points you want to cover and how long you want to cover them.

Are you interviewing an industry leader? Write down any questions you want to answer, when to introduce yourself, and when to answer questions from your audience.

Are you introducing a new product to your viewers? Write down all of the features and benefits that you want to flaunt.

Do you give your viewers a short “how-to”? Write down all of the steps they need to know, as well as any other tips that you want to offer.

That way, your video will stay focused and on track. Otherwise it can easily run off the rails.

Engage your audience

As every favorite spaceship captain says:

Jean Luc Piccard

Instagram Live offers you a perfect platform to get in touch with your customers in real time. When you do this, you build relationships and trust with your audience – all of which are critical elements of a thriving brand.

However, as with any good relationship, it takes time and energy to get involved and build a good relationship with your audience. It's not enough to just answer a few questions on a live stream. You need to listen to your followers and give them what they want.

Only then will they reward you with their trust.

7 ideas for Instagram live streams

1. Work with an industry influencer

There is no better and more proven way to spread brand awareness and gain more followers than by partnering with an industry influencer.

These are people that your target audience already recognizes and respects. When you work with them, they will make an impact on your brand and bring more people into your company.

Instagram Live is a perfect platform for this collaboration. With the Add a guest and living room These features allow you to activate influencers for interviews, Q&A sessions with your viewers, or just for a chat.

Tap on Add a guest Button at the bottom of the screen) and you have the option to select a guest for your stream. When the guest joins, their video will be displayed on a split screen with yours.

If you plan on using more than one influencer on your show, use the living room Function instead. You can invite up to three guests to share the screen with you.

Here is an example from The Lyons & # 39; Share Wellness, a fitness trainer, who greeted a running expert on her Instagram Live to give viewers some great insights into fitness.

For more information, see our article on Working with Social Media Influencers.

2. Go live at an event

There is no better place to go live than at an industry event that you or someone else are hosting.

Maybe your brand is about to receive an award? Stream the ceremony live for your followers to see.

Maybe you are at a conference and there is a panel that you think your audience would love?

Share them on Instagram Live.

Maybe it's just a party or fundraiser your company is hosting? This is a great opportunity to show your followers the human, fun-loving side of your brand.

Live streaming at events also helps boost the powerful FOMO (fear of missing out) factor and add to the hype and anticipation of your next event. This is great if you want your followers to come to another event later.

Here's a great example of Cristiano Ronaldo streaming his advertising visit to a Nike store from Instagram Live.

3. Host a tutorial or workshop

Instagram Live is a great place to host a workshop for your followers. Not only will you be able to stream to people all over the world, but you will also have the ability to have real-time answers to any questions they may have.

One person who does this very well is John Mayer on his Instagram live streams. He often turns to the platform to give guitar master classes to his followers.

These videos are fun, informative, and very engaging. He often takes the time to answer questions his audience has for him.

Kim Kardashian also created a live makeup tutorial for all of her Instagram followers.

You might not be a famous rock star or reality TV mogul, but there are many ways your brand can offer lessons to your viewers, too.

4. Questions and Answers

A great way to engage with your audience is by answering their questions. This is especially effective when you have thought leaders in your organization.

Just hop on Instagram Live and ask questions from your audience. They can range from topics like the latest news in your industry to the insides of your business.

Here is a video of entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk doing a Q&A on his Instagram live stream.

Make sure to give your followers Q&A before going live so they know they have questions. This also helps build hype about your stream ahead of time.

5. Interview a colleague

A great way to create transparency and showcase the human side of your business is to interview an employee during an Instagram live stream.

This is a great opportunity to put a face to your business while also giving your employees some love and appreciation.

And it doesn't have to be a tough, Barbara Walters-esque interview. Just sit down and ask them about their role, what they do on a daily basis, and how they are helping your audience with your brand.

Just give your coworker a head off before you shove an iPhone in their face like the paparazzi do.

6. Talk to a customer

You don't have to speak to an industry thought leader or influencer to grow your brand. Talking to a customer about how much they love your product or service can be just as effective in targeting your audience – and much cheaper.

Do you offer fitness coaching? Interview a customer who has run a marathon because of your business.

Do you teach people personal finance? Talk to one of your students about how they got out of debt with your advice.

These are just some examples. If your customers have had a positive experience with your company, they are basically perfect candidates for an Instagram Live interview.

And since Instagram gives you the option to save the video after you're done, you can keep it on your Instagram profile as a video testimonial. Double profit!

7. Check

This is a close relative of Idea # 2.

You can instantly respond to an event, book, movie, lecture or whatever Instagram live stream. As long as it's related to your industry and / or audience, it's a fair game.

For example, if you've just watched a prominent thought leader in your field, you can go to Instagram Live and share your immediate thoughts about it.

Or maybe you're just reading the latest book on your industry – and you've got a hot outlook on it that no one has thought of before. Hop on Instagram Live and spill the T!

(That's what kids say these days. Right?)

Just make sure you don't say anything to regret while being so excited.

You can also review various products and services related to your business. Are you using a new laptop for your business? Or have you tried a new camera? Evaluation of all these products live!
