The "Fear of Missing" or FOMO is a powerful psychological trigger. If you'd like a subscriber to benefit from a special offer or offer like free shipping or a discount code, let them know in the pre-header. You will be tempted to open immediately knowing that the offer is exclusive or limited in time.

And you want them to open right away! If they don't open when they first see the message, they likely won't come back to do so the next day or week.
